what are technological equipment for the blind?

CCTV===I forgot what it stands for, but I have one, and it is a monitor with a camera that zooms in and out to make objects underneath it appear larger, it also lets you choose contrasts.

Quick Look===This is similar to the CCTV, but like a handheld version.

Dome Magnifier===enough said lol, it is a magnifier shaped like a dome.

Monocular===Like binoculars, except one, which a lot of students, including myself, use to view objects that are far away.

Computer Magnifier===On most windows operating systems, you can go to accessories, accessibility, then magnifier. Then on pops up on top of the screen and wherever the cursor is at, gets magnified.

Books on tape===self explanatory

Computer Monitor Magnifier===attaches to a computer monitor to magnify the entire area of the computer monitor.

How do I find blind people in my area?

I am currently building a new piece of equipment that will help blind people operate their computer and play games. I am not yet at the stage to test it on actual blind people, but at some point I will have to. Having myself, friends, and family close their eyes and use it just isn't the same effect! lol!
When the time comes, how do I find blind people in my area that might be willing to test using my invention?

Well, there might be groups or homes that house blind individuals in your area. You can look it up on the internet.

The other way is to go everywhere you know and to all that you know and ask them if they know any blind individuals. But be clear about what it is you want to accomplish. First let them know that this is for a project or an invention and it would be helpful if you had someone who was preferably blind to test it on. Once you tell them your mission and who the project is aimed towards then maybe they will have an answer. But go to those in your neighborhood and community.

Not a frivolous question. Is there a piece of radio or TV equipment which can eliminate a commentators voice?

I am quite sure that many people are completely fed up with the inane chatter and talk of commentators. Some even give the impression that they are commentating to the blind(no offence to the blind). Are there any pieces of equipment which can cut out the the voices of the commentators but still allow the other sounds, e.g. the match noise still be heard? Even a simple adjustment to the remote control? Or is there a fortune to be made by someone who can invent a gadget like this?

Can't be done with any efficiency, it's been tried on pre-recorded media. There are many mixers out there, especially for karaoke, that claim to "extract" the vocals. The effect is part of the vocal still there, and the music part gets muffled and distorted, as if through a phase shift.

The problem is the recorded sound is a single wave pattern and the subtleties are too well mixed in. Doing this for a live broadcast would be even more difficult, as there's no way to predict or isolate the areas of the wave that are the voice.

If i cannot afford proper distillation equipment for alcohol, can i distill it by boiling it in a pot?

I want to know whether i could boil all the other volatile components out of the solution, like the stuff that makes you blind. I can't exactly afford expensive equipment right now which is why i want to start making what i can without buying overpriced products

NO

The alcohol boils off at a lower temperature than water boils at.

The distilation equipment collects that alcohol vapour and cools it so it can be collected.

Simply boiling it in a pot will mean you lose all the alcohol, and end up with water.

How do I get a grant to film a documentary about a blind camp?

I went to this camp when I was younger, it's put on by the Society of the Blind. I would like to film a documentary film about it, help out the Society by doing it. I would need funds to purchase the proper equipment.

Maybe they can put you intouch with soem doners

  • Obama Blinked

On Tuesday evening, Dec. 1, 2009, President Obama presented his assessment of the war in Afghanistan and his decision what to do about it. This decision came after months of discussions and debates with the Pentagon and national security advisors, including nine strategic summits. The speech was heralded as a new strategy for winning the war and bringing our soldiers home.

Obama spent a third of his speech going over old history--only faintly touching on the failures of the previous eight years and the unnecessary distraction of the Iraq war. He spent the rest of his speech apologizing for his decision and complaining that the only nation he really wanted to build was our own. Where was the new strategy? It was one small paragraph buried in-between:

About: The Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology ...

Many federal laws have been enacted to require greater access to telecommunications. There is only one problem – the federal laws that we worked so hard to enact over the past 20 years have not kept pace with many new technologies. For instance, television shows that are re-shown over the Internet are under no requirement to be captioned – even if they had captions when they were shown on TV! Also, small TVs, cell phones, PDAs, and other mobile devices are not required to display captions, even though they are now capable of showing TV shows. Also, for now, 9-1-1 emergency call centers cannot accept calls from people who need to communicate in video or via pagers.

During the spring of 2007, a new coalition, the Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT), was established to try to fix these problems. Founding organizations include Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD), the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), and the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB). As of April 10, 2009, over 230 national, regional, state or local organizations are members of the COAT.
