i am due to go on maternity leave in july and move in with my partner who is disabled (epilepsy, blind in one eye)
he gets his rent and council tax paid for plus disabled benefits im just wondering for the time im on smp (statutory maternity pay) will we get help with the cost of rent and council text?
im new to this as i have worked since i left school never been unemployed nor never claimed benefits
just worried about the cost lol
thanks for everyone who helps
firstly are your normal working hours full time.. that will make a difference... you need to contact your local council house, and ask to be put through to the revenue department.... when you get there ask for a calcualtion of what benefits ie housing/council tax you will be entitled to.. make sure you have to hand the figures of what your partner gets and what benefits he is on, and also what your yrly wage is.... making him/her aware you are taking maternity... with this they will be able to goive you a rough guide to what you are entitled to....in advance, they are very rarely too far off, maybe a few quid either way. thats your best bet rather than ppl giving you diff answers. good luck.
ps, ill tell you what also. you can actually get this calculation online now and you dont have to declare who you are,, just go onto your councils website and a link will take you to it... much easier than on the phone... just a thought:)

Council Tax and Tax on everything we earn, and why, for what? For schools, hospitals and roads? Or just to keep these people in high life? Anything that is seen by the council to be making money all of a sudden becomes taxable, why? I agree there should be some form of tax but it is, at the end of the day, our money. We would all pay less in the end if the NHS went private if we just payed through health schemes, like they do in Spain. The local aurthority in my area when on an all expensis paid holiday to America the other month ( who's money funded that?) for a seminar on 'How to get more council tax from the public in your area'!!! Crazy!! We are born free and taxed to death. I feel we are as people having the wool pulled over our eyes, the longer it goes on the worse it will get, we're getting robbed blind. This government and councils are you're new age mob taking a percentage of our hard earnt money, so you have to stay in their pocket and they get free cash! Comments welcome
Your right in tune!

ok the snow is here at last but how many other people have council who won't girt ... we have a bridge that 3 schools and a home for blind people use one side is under the control of westminster council and the other is kennsington and chelsea and neither will girt it they just say its the other council that has to do it ..this bridge is like an ice rink.. someone is going to break a bone
have contacted both councils kennsington have done half of it westminster nothing say they will respond within 5 days.....lol role on broken legs and arms
How shamefully bureaucratic, in cases like this there should be shared responsibility. Perhaps getting the media involved will bring the councils to their senses. Talk about Jobsworth - childish.

Houston NAACP: Warner Robins Police Need More Minorities
Houston County's NAACP president told city council Monday night that the Warner Robins Police Department needs to hire more minorities.
Larry Holmes singled out the police department, but some city leaders say it's an issue in every department.
NAACP President for Houston County Larry Holmes did his homework before coming to council. He brought a stack of statistics comparing the number of minorities, particularly blacks, in the Warner Robins Police Department to other one's in Central Georgia.
Holmes said, "All the other police department's percentage was a lot higher than Warner Robins."
Holmes' numbers showed that blacks make up five percent of the city's police force. He says it be should closer to 32 percent, or equal to the city's black population.
