Does anyone know of any service that provides brailled books for school and college subjects in the UK? I am specifically looking to order a Gsce Maths book in braille version. I am a support worker in a college, working with a blind student and we have trouble finding that book, even from known organisations such as the RNIB, e.t.c.
Get an ordinary copy - take it to a local blind persons centre or charity, and they will convert it into Braille for the cost of a donation - they used to do this 4 me when I worked with a blind girl.
An average book or novel will be made up of five volumes of braille. The largest book in the RNIB Library is the Viking Opera Guide which is in 94 ...
My friend is blind and wanted to read something in Braille. We went to the library to see if they had it, and we found out that they do not offer any books in Braille. Isn't this illegal? I live in Provo, Utah area
I've seen so many Braille books come and sit and go. They were a curiosity for a few people, mostly scouts earning a merit badge or kids being home schooled, but not a single blind resident checked out a single book in Braille. Ever.
Now, twice a week or perhaps more often than that someone new comes into the library to check out a tape for Books for the Blind and once a month or so someone gets a free player for BftB, but again, not a single blind resident has checked out a single book in Braille. Ever.
So reluctantly we pulled them from the collection and used the space for other items.

I have an antique math book with raised roman type letters. It was for the blind and dates in the mid 1800's. It has word problems in it.

I know there are lending libraries. I can't seem to find anyone who sells children's braille books in Australia. I'd like to be able to keep them rater than have to return them afterwards.
The Braille Bookstore is an online shop in Canada - I've included the Contact Us link so you can find out about delivery costs etc. to Australia.
Vision Australia is the primary supplier of lending materials for the vision impaired in Australia so it may be worthwhile contacting them to find out who they get their braille books from.

Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library (Now @ MPL...)
The library is part of the Talking Book Program of the Library of Congress, and provides Braille and recorded books and playback equipment for those Wisconsin residents who, for any physical reason, cannot read normal print.
The name change was made in coordination with a new digital transition that will allow the library to provide patrons with digital books recorded on flash memory cartridges that can be played on a machine that is also provided.
